Chris and I packed up yesterday morning from our little campspot in the canyons of Zion National Park in SE Utah. I’ll have a post forthcoming about our trip thus far with pictures. We actually didn’t do all that much during our time there, but did take the opportunity to chill, er roast, in the 104 degree heat without air conditioning. The drive in and the view out our window was worth it!
Before heading out, we did manage a hike along and through the Virgin River and it was gorgeous. Overwhelming so. Heck, most of Utah is like that.
We then took I-15 west towards Las Vegas, cutting through more deep canyons cut by the Virgin River. Amazing what a little stream of water can do really. And traveling on interstates in Utah totally defies my normal stance on the boredom of interstates.
So after days of being amidst natural beauty of towering canyons, we pulled in yesterday afternoon to our campspot on The Strip of Las Vegas, to another kind of beauty of canyons of manmade glitz.
We meet up last evening for dinner with some fellow (temporary) nomads who are traveling around in a Prius with their two cats – very cool folks. And then Chris showed me some of Vegas, starting with his favorite – the Bellagio Fountains. They are stunning, and I look forward to enjoying them more. The rest of what I saw last evening kinda reminds me of a very very large cruise ship. We only toured the Bellagio and Ceasar’s Palace, and I was exhausted after that.
Today we’ll be doing the Star Trek Experience and then attending the Coverville 500 concert, as well as anything else that nomadic serendipity leads us towards. Sterling and Melissa arrive tomorrow afternoon, and I look forward to rendezvousing with them before we complete our trek to the Bay Area.
