I just posted a number of pictures from Burning Man 2008. You can view them on Flickr.
Here I’ll highlight a few of the art pieces. I really didn’t find a lot of the art this year to be very ‘wow’ – and from reading reviews of Burning Man elsewhere, apparently it wasn’t just me. Most of these photos are from the one afternoon I took off on my own on the bike and ended out deep playa by the trash fence. This area was difficult to access because of the soft playa, so not many made it out that far. I only found myself out there once, which was very different than last year as I kept getting drawn out there (it’s a wonderful introvert’s escape from people).
The Ketchup Bottle. This was actually located right by our camp, it was a 30′ structure that is designed to be re-used at future events. They brought 5000 lbs of potatoes out, and made french fries every evening. And they were best darn french fries I’ve ever had. Seriously. One of their crew members ended up camping with us.
The Sacred Couch – located fairly deep playa. Just as you see it, a couch and TV. I sat on the couch and watched the playa on TV, as well as my own reflection. It was a nice resting spot after powering through sand serpents.
The Exit Sign and The End (located at the trash fence).
The Temple. This year’s temple was not by David Best. And while beautiful – I dunno, it just didn’t speak to me the same as last year’s temple. I think it was mostly my mindset – last year I starting a lot of change, and had a lot to release and ask for guidance on. Most of what I started there last year has manifested this year, so I was more in a place of gratitude than anything else. The temple was made mostly out of recycled materials, and it took forever to burn. In the morning, we visited the ashes – and I was surprised with how many solid pieces were left.
