It’s official – Chris and I are serving as the full time presence of the Obama for America Campaign in Fallon, NV. The locals seem to like us and have impressed upon the campaign the importance of having someone here to lead the charge and begged to specifically keep us. *gulp* Our host family is absolutely amazing, and they are really going out of their way to give us their full support.
Such a big change from our original expectations a week ago to go to Las Vegas and help with data input. My mind is still swimming in all the pieces to come together over the next week or so, the trust and responsibility placed in us and all the while keeping in mind that our territory is much more rural than the map laid out for us.
Today we had breakfast with Congressional Candidate Jill Derby, attended the local high school’s Presidential forum and met the Young Democrats and attended the Churchill County Democrat meeting. It’s been a full day of meeting the local leaders and getting to know the unique issues, history and concerns of the community so we can best make use of our time here as well as mustering up enthusiasm and support in a town that thus far has not been getting its fair share of dedication from the campaign.
It’s also become quite clear to us that Democrats are in the minority here. It’ll be a tough road ahead. And hopefully a worthwhile one.
