Ever since we left the San Francisco Bay Area on March 22, we’ve been in motion heading towards St. Louis for Mother’s Day, with a stop in Austin to visit with my family. We decided to take just over 6 weeks to make the trip, a very reasonable pace to keep that allows for stopping and being a tourist.
Over the past few weeks we’ve seen some amazing things along Route 66 in Arizona and New Mexico, visited with amazing people and racked up many memories – posts with photos and videos are forthcoming, I promise.
Upon arriving in Austin, we had intentions of being more active, seeing lots of things and meeting lots of people. However between us both fighting colds, being exhausted, having lots of work and blogging to catch up on and it raining a good deal – we’ve found ourselves relatively still and being homebodies. And sometimes, a nomad just has to allow for stillness to catch up to them, despite their best intentions. Not every stop we make has to be based upon seeing and experiencing new things, sometimes we just need to be. Besides, how can one really complain when the view out our window this week has been a fabulous wooded forest with cardinals playing?
Thank goodness this spell of stillness came in Austin, my hometown. We’ve been able to focus our moments of energy towards spending time with family and eating fabulous TexMex food, and not feel bad about not doing more. We know we’ll be coming back.
