Now that my father is on the mend, we start to look to what the remainder of our summer will look like, and what our routing will be to get to Burning Man. We don’t stress much about schedules, because things always seem to line up when they need to – as such as our July plans.
The general plans (notice how things get more nebulous the further out time goes, that’s the nature of Nomadic Standard Time):
July 13: Sometime in the next week we’ll start heading north from Melbourne, FL towards Columbia, SC – where we just scheduled a business meeting to launch a new project I’m very excited about. How serendipitious that being back in FL made this meeting easy to just swing by on our way across the country?
July 15: Just as I was setting up my business meeting, a dear friend contacted me that she’d be in Floyd, VA for vacation that same week. We ask our friends to let us know when they’re traveling somewhere, because you just never know when a rendezvous might be possible. Score – it’s on the way to where we wanted to go next – so it’ll be a perfect stop over along the Blue Ridge Parkway to meet some of her dear friends. And since we had just commissioned her to make some special jewelry for us – the timing is perfect to handle fittings in person.
Sometime the week of July 19: The reason we picked this general route is that another dear friend of ours just accepted an exciting 3-year contract working at a university in Afghanistan. I’m so very excited for her (and once she launches her blog about the adventure, we’ll introduce you to her), so we want to go spend some time with her in northern Indiana before seeing her becomes much more of an adventure for us!
Late July: Since we’re in the area anyway, we’ll return to St. Louis to spend more time with Chris’ family – as our time with them got very compressed when we decided to divert to Florida for my dad’s surgery last month.
August: From St. Louis we’ll find a route across country to meander towards Sacramento, CA (where we keep our storage unit) to pick up our Burning Man gear, and then head on to Black Rock City – where we are once again hosting Camp Nomadia, a theme camp for us nomadic minded folks. More on that soon.
If you have ideas for our routing, suggestions for things we just have to see or live anywhere along the way and would like to meet up or better yet – have us be Temporary Neighbors for a couple nights, be in touch.

Perhaps our paths will cross! Your route is eerily similar to mine as I head from GA to VA to CO to WA this summer. I’ll be interested to hear where you stop along the way.

Awesome.. let us know if it looks like our paths will cross. Nomadic rendezvouses rock.

So glad to hear your dad is doing better!
My family and I live in a little town right off the Ohio river that it appears you will be going through between stops C & D on your summer adventure… if you feel you want to stop for a night, hit me up… would love to have you guys as temporary neighbors! <3 Safe travels!

Thanks! We’ll be in touch before we leave out of Floyd, VA late next week and see what might possible. Always love meeting up with others!

Hey guys, when you’re in Floyd, be sure to check out the Floyd Country Store on Friday nights. It’s a local bluegrass extravaganza with music, clogging, singing, you name it. Even if you’re not into bluegrass, it’s a lot of fun to check out Americana music at its most authentic. We had a blast there, hope you get to see it.

Yours is the second recommendation for making our stop in Floyd over a Friday night.. so we’ll just have to make that happen. Thanks for the recommendation!
