Wow? It’s already Thursday? Where does the time go. No matter what your intentions are for Burning Man – attending events, seeing art projects or meeting up with friends, it’s about this time of the week where it’s easy to feel the pressure of time slipping away.
Today was our big day of hosting a Technomadic Lifestyle Workshop, where we invited folks from all over to join us for a Q & A about life on the road. We rounded up a panel of cool nomads in our camp, including Sam & Tracy of ZenNomads, Brian of BikeandBoots.com , Jay & Ayo ofOurTakeOnFreedom and Christine of AlmostFearless. The mix gave us a very diverse range of styles of nomadism – from RVing like us, flying around the world to different locations to major simplification of traveling via motorcycle.
Like last year, we had quite a crowd show up – all eager to learn more about how to make it work. Questions asked ranged from keeping connectivity, handling logistics like receiving mail, health insurance, costs and earning an income while being mobile.
After the workshop, we transitioned to our Nomadic Happy Hour – where much community, beverage and food was shared. We ended up giving non-stop tours of our little home on wheels and met with a lot of amazing people who came over to meet us in person. I’m not even going to attempt to name them all – for fear of forgetting folks. But lets just say it was a bit overwhelming.
That combined with the heat (we’ve actually had quite mild weather this year, where keeping warm has been more of an issue), left me feeling drained for the rest of the day. So, afraid I don’t have much else picture wise to share with you today.
Camp Nomadia this year is off the charts awesome – and we are absolutely thrilled with the folks who felt called to our vision of creating community from each of us coming prepared to be self-reliant without much in the way of shared infrastructure. It brings me great joy to meander around our camp (which has about 80-90 folks in it) and witness all the amazing connections being made. And our crowdsourced shade structure has become quite the central area for converging with our campmates.

I was the dork who stopped by a half hour before your workshop, and playa timing (and running into an old friend) prevented me from returning for the class–I was impressed by your camp, though. Lots of happy, relaxed people hanging about.
Hope decompression goes well for you both, and that you do decide to return next year…for sure, I’ll get that playa gift to you then, and be sure to visit at a more appropriate time!

Can’t wait to get back to the technomadic life after way too many years building toolsets… I’m within a month or two of moving aboard now. Thanks for keeping the torch burning, and I look forward to a nautical gathering of technomads young and old!

Thanks for sharing the photos and stories! Sounds like lots of great times and good people. Sure wish we could have made it. We are looking forward to meeting some of these nomads on the road in the coming year(s).

I’ve loved following your updates.
Camp Nomadia has a pretty fast growth rate! My god, I wonder how many you will have next year? I hope, hope, hope that I will be able to join you.
I’m almost at my 6th month mark of nomadism, but still feel like I need to learn so much. Any other gatherings of any sort coming up?
Thanks for taking the time to share this with the rest of us.
