It’s been difficult to remember that it’s the holiday season here in the Virgin Islands. Heck, it’s hard to remember it’s winter here. The weather has been pretty much a constant mid 80s during the day and upper 70s at night (and up in our little mountain cottage, it’s pretty much mid-70s all the time). We did dip down to the upper 60s for a bit.. brrr.
However, there have been some signs of holiday celebrations – they’re just more subtle.
The island cactus at various local restaurants are trimmed.
Guavaberry Wine is out. It’s apparently a local holiday tradition. How do we know? The label says so! (For those curious, it’s made with guavaberries, cinnamon, sugar and of course.. rum. Everything has rum in it here. )
The steel drum bands are playing holiday music! We caught a holiday performance of the local youth steel orchestra, the Love City Pan Dragons – they were mighty impressive!
