Last week we decided it was time to have an adventure off of St. John, and headed over to St. Thomas. There are people and car ferries that run just about every hour between Cruz Bay (the more populated side of St. John) and St. Thomas. It was also time for us to do a grocery stock up run, and St. Thomas generally has better prices and more selection. With a cost of $48 round trip on the car ferry, it’s definitely a run you try to make the most of!
So, we called up our fellow nomadic friend Trevor, who is currently staying on St. Thomas. We’ve enjoyed adventure days of hiking and snorkeling on St. John together, so we were excited to see his island a bit too. By the way, Trevor has been traveling the world full time for a couple years now – and he funds it by waiting tables. He’ll find a great location to be for a while, save up while doing a job he loves and exploring a new place, backpack travel for a bit then repeat. You don’t have to have a high tech laptop career, create information products or build up an affiliate marketing enterprise to have an amazing travel life!
It turns out, he had a local friend and co-worker, Scarlin, who was excited to give us all a personal tour of her island. It was perfect!

After a tour around the island with Trevor and Scarlin, we dropped them off and proceeded to Cost-U-Less, which is a Costco like warehouse store. We stocked up on a lot of food that is either expensive or unavailable on St. John. We then caught one of the last ferries back to St. John, enjoying an amazing sunset.
Coming into St. John – this is the Cruz Bay side of the island (we’re staying in Coral Bay, the less populated side).

We had an awesome day on St. Thomas, and shouldn’t have to grocery shop for a while now too.

Really enjoy your narrative! Dolores and I spent the winter of 2009-10 above the Haulover. Our Island jeep was yellow, and is still there with Island Girl and Husband Rob! You relay what a great place SJ is, but it is a shame that you are not beaching more. If you don’t beach about every day, it will be a lifetime regret. We miss it every day, and are conspiring to return at our earliest opportunity. Have fun, enjoy that jeep and watch out for iguanas, chickens, ducks, donkeys, goats, sheep, and hitchers. Jim

St. John was indeed an amazing experience for us, and we did thoroughly enjoy the beaches. But we weren’t there for a non-stop vacation – we had a business to run too. And besides, sitting on the beach everyday isn’t our idea of fun, especially when it involves a 20 minute drive 🙂 We’re back stateside now, and off on the next adventure.

Lovely! I think I’m going to have to fix myself a rum & coke tonight to toast your gorgeous location 🙂

Make sure you mix it strong, that would be the island way! (Rum is much cheaper than coke here) 🙂

Looks great!

Island life is definitely agreeing with you. You both look fit and happy!

Thanks, Louise 🙂 It was definitely the right decision for us to take this opportunity.
