Florida has played a big part in our life in the past year, and this week we reminence that it was one year ago that we made the decision to accept an offer on our Oliver.
We were also parked in Florida then and contemplating life ahead of us. It was much more of a whirlwind, as we had no plan for what to do after dropping our only home off with its new owner. Wow what a year it’s been since.
This time around we’ve been wandering Florida since mid-November, and I feel so incredibly blessed that we’ve been able to be with my family these past intense months.
But it’s time to move on.
We’re craving new adventures.
Work connections are calling us yonder.
And we’re starting to push up against residency grey areas that have us contemplating if we might need to officially move to Florida (on paper) to avoid any potential legal issues if we stayed much longer.
So this Friday, we’ll start our journey from north Orlando (where we’re at for the week) heading out of state.
Where are we aiming?
Well, first – Austin, TX.
Aside from it being my home town and where my bro lives… Central Texas is also where we have two work contracts. While none of our work is dependent on us being on site, we always find it well worth the while to have some in person time with our clients. Since we have nothing else on the calendar, Austin seems like a good destination to aim for – before it gets too hot.
We’ll take about 2 weeks to meander there, stopping along the way wherever captures our interest and balancing work time with drive time. And then we’ll likely stick around at least 2 or 3 weeks.
From there, we have our sights on St. Louis by the end of June to celebrate Chris’ grandma’s 90th birthday. Along the way, we have a couple of events we’d like to drop in on – a St. Louis area Burning Man regional and a bus rally.
As always, we welcome invitations to meet up with folks along the way – and especially appreciate offers to park the bus for a night or two. So if you’re not too far off our projected route and would like a technomad meet up, give us a holler: us@technomadia.com.
After June, our summer is a blank slate. With Burning Man pretty much off our calendar this year, we’re contemplating the possibilities of staying around the east for the summer. Usually by mid-July we’re setting sails towards Nevada, and haven’t nomadically gotten further into the northeast than Philadelphia.

Can’t believe I’ve never seen this blog before. You sold your home on wheels but are still on the road? What did you end up moving into?
We did the exact opposite trip you’re planning there a couple of years ago and ended up getting “stuck” in Florida for a couple of months. Neither my lady nor I had any desire to roam the state, but her dad lived there so we headed over to say hi and give the south a chance…ended up falling in love with the panhandle and the west coast. And then wishing it was 30 years ago in the Keys.
Happy travels!

Hi Nathan.. and welcome. Thanks for stopping in.
The short story is that we sold the Oliver, borrowed a small motorhome from a friend to move our stuff & cat to a safe place, bought an Amtrak rail pass and then started our search for a vintage bus by backpacking across America. We’ve since been traveling in a 1961 GM 4106. The full story can be found here: https://www.technomadia.com/about-us/
Next time you’re in FL, be sure to check out Cedar Key – sounds like it would be your kinda place.

Zion is so beautiful, we workamped in St. George for a couple weeks last year and loved it.
Thanks for the routing tips – we actually did that drive a couple years ago, it is beautiful. We just booked a string of state parks along the way – love FL state parks!

Oh if you guys are planning to do New England, Acadia National Park in Maine is amazing. We were there for the fall colors in 2010 and I was so taken by it. I was actually surprised that it turned out to be one of my favorite national parks so far!
Cherie Ve Ard says
Bouncing around New England is definitely trending for us 🙂 Your beautiful pictures from Acadia definitely tempt us.

Not sure if you go through Abbeville, La but if you do check out Betty’s RV Park and the surrounding area…also we enjoyed the Shiner Brewery in Shiner Texas….we loved the Hill country for all the wildflowers, but you might b3e a bit late for that…safe travels…
Cherie Ve Ard says
Thanks for the recommendations Jil! Yeah, I think we’ve missed the peak of the beautiful wildflower season. Oh well.

ummmm, we left Austin a few days ago and are leaving Canyon Lake tomorrow… it is already pretty hot here so hope you find cooler weather when you arrive…
Cherie Ve Ard says
Oh… but it’s not nearly as hot as it’ll get in July & August 🙂

Late Summer is a wonderful time to visit the Great Lakes, Maine, or Canada! So many great places to enjoy nice cool lake breezes, and discover little vineyards and farmers markets. City life is also never too far away when you need a change of pace.

That sounds lovely!

Happy Trails, to YOOOO! Until we meet again. There are worse places to call home than Florida. As you go through Pascagoula MS if it is meal time, detour over to Hiway 90 and stop at the Catalina. Home cooked seafood for over 30 years.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Hi Rhonda.. I actually lived in Florida for 12 years before hitting the road, so not opposed to it. But there are certain advantages to keeping our SD residency right now, the least of which is the paperwork hassles of changing everything over.
OurTakeOnFreedom says
BINGO! I’m waiting here with open arms.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Cool cool.. any idea how long you guys are sticking around Austin?
OurTakeOnFreedom says
Yup. We should be around until the very beginning of June. I know that’s seriously pushing it with the heat, but we’re digging it here.
