We landed in Austin on Sunday, and have hit the ground running with a lot of work projects underway this week, as well as catching up with friends in the area.
It’s very good to be here.
Since we’re lacking time to write up a new post today, I thought this might be a good time to share a new page on our website we put together – a ‘Start Here‘ page. It’s a quick reference to who we are, and links to our most commonly asked for content.
After 5 years of blogging, we’ve accumulated a lot of writings here – so hopefully this new page can help you find your way around our past content (or at the very least, help us more quickly find our past writings that we so frequently refence!)
Below, I’m re-printing some of the links. Hopefully you’ll find some of it useful.
More About Us
Our Full Story — How we met, who we are, our various forms of travel thus far (from our minimalist days in a 16″² trailer, backpacking by train, a winter in the USVI and now a vintage bus) and how we earn our income as we roam.
Our Home on Wheels – We’re currently traveling in a 1961 vintage bus. This link will tell you all about it – including a video tour and log of our modifications.
Our Technology Arsenal – Technology enables our lifestyle to keep connected and working as we roam. This page is kept up to date as we change out our technology arsenal.
Our Monthly Cost Log — We frequently get asked how much does it cost to travel full time?’. We’ve kept our log online for the past few years.

Cherie,
Thanks so much for that advice! I appreciate it very much, and will let you know when we’re finally on the road.

Hi Cherie,
My husband and I are just weeks away from hitting the road full time! We both work online, just sold our house (yippee!) and are in the process of decluttering and getting everything we need to live in our camper (a soon to be purchased 16 ft. Camplite).
I first want to thank you so much for your blog; it’s been a huge source of inspiration for us, and we’ve really relied on all your good advice, especially regarding your technology set-up. It has eliminated a lot of worry/guesswork on our part, and we appreciate it so, so much!
I was wondering if you had written a post about the tools you’ve found you needed on the road? Such as water hoses, screwdrivers, etc.? What did you find you needed most that you didn’t really expect to need? We’re newbies to RV life, and I just want to make sure we have everything we need when we set off and that I don’t donate something we could really use once we get on the road.
Thanks again,
Heather

Hi Heather.. and welcome. I’ve been trying to think if we’ve ever posted about that topic, but not coming up with anything. But you never know, we’ve been writing for nearly 6 years now 😀
We carry a pretty large toolkit with us tho, as we are remodeling our bus as we go, and taking care of a lot of maintenance. But in general, we just wing it and trust that the right stuff will be available when we need it. And besides, paying Home Depot to store our stuff is a pretty good deal! (Ie. we just buy what we need, when we need it.) It seems to never fail – you’ll keep what you think you’ll need, and never end up needing it. And what you do need you don’t have, or you can’t remember where you packed it.
As far what to carry.. really all depends on your setup, and how much maintenance you intend to do yourself. But I can say, unless you’re planning to water your campgrounds – carrying a garden hose is not necessary. You will want a specially designed fresh water hose for filling your tanks however, which you can buy at a camping store or online (we like http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com).
I also recommend taking a test run in your camper before you sell/donate everything off.. that will give you a good idea of what you need to keep. We did several together over a couple of months, and it really helped.
I’d also follow http://www.interstellarorchid.com – this gal just went through the process, and heavily documented decisions like this, and her reasoning.
Best wishes!
– Cherie

So much good information. And I’m so glad you posted about the baking soda/apple cider vinegar hair cleaning. Thanks for sharing.

I am so enjoying reading the posts in your blog. So much good information. And I’m so glad you posted about the baking soda/apple cider vinegar hair cleaning. I have known about the vinegar since I was pretty young. Never heard of using baking soda too. That stuff is good for everything! I’m definitely going to give it a try.
We were in Marble Falls, TX, last weekend picking up our new (new to us) motorhome so we are just starting our adventure. Hope to see you on the road sometime.

Welcome to the road with your new home-on-wheels! If you’re still in the central TX area, we’re hosting an open house/bus next Wednesday.

Unfortunately, we are back in Virginia to take care of some details before we hit the road again.

Blogging for 5 years is pretty inspiring. I would love to read those articles you have through the years, especially the ones that tackle your humble beginnings. What are the articles here that you find very memorable? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Shane.. and welcome. If you click on the ‘Our Tales’ menu item at the top of any page of our blog, you’ll see all our posts tagged as Chapters. The ‘T@bbed Browsing’ days would be our start on the road together. Enjoy.
