One of the perks of being camped at the Casino Queen RV Park is the incredible location – directly across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis and the Arch.
Though the RV park is a lot more cramped and crowded than we like (it is little more than a big parking lot), the views of the skyline and easy pedestrian access across Eads Bridge to downtown and light-rail access all over the city make this a prime urban place to camp.
And it is especially prime every 4th of July when Fair St. Louis is happening – every one of these RV spots turn into a front-row seats for a fabulous air show, and three nights of world-class fireworks.
The air show was a particular treat – we caught the rehearsal flights on Tuesday, and both shows on the 4th. I even braved the heat and ventured up to watch from the middle of the bridge for the second one – an absolute stunning view with planes whooshing by right overhead.
Here is a video of some of the highlights:

Family gathered to join us for a BBQ and watching the fireworks that evening, and rather than a two-hour traffic jam to get home, we only had to step back inside.
If only it weren’t so friggen hot, maybe we’d actually be up for making it over for one of the free concerts being held under the arch. But with this being the hottest 4th of July EVER in the history of St. Louis, we haven’t felt too badly about needing to focus on staying cool.

What a cool way to spend the 4th. Planes flying in front of the Arch is pretty epic. I was in Anchorage at a street festival and found it fascinating as well.
