We follow serendipity. It’s our guiding light. And Monday it was on in full force.
While our location indicator on our blog was set to showing us in Phoenix already, we were actually still parked in Desert Hot Springs lamenting saying ‘until next time’ to Nina & Paul. We were about to make way to an overnight rendezvous in Quartzsite with a friend.
Just before we left, we got another invitation for a meet-up in our e-mail:
I’m two hours west of you at the moment in Quartzsite. I’m 29 years old, traveling the country in my small 21 foot motorhome. Let me know if you will be traveling through here anytime in the next month so we can meet. Thanks! – Ramia
I immediately replied back saying that we would actually be passing through Quartzsite that night, and asked for recommendations to park nearby so we could meet up.
By the time we arrived to rendezvous with our friend, we hadn’t heard back from Ramia. The three of us headed out to dinner at the iconic Yacht Club and sat down at a table.
Our waitress came over and introduced herself. The conversation went something like this.
Ramia: “Hi, I’m Ram”
Chris: “Ram… what a beautiful and unusual name.”
Ramia: “It’s actually short for Ramia..”
Me: “Wait, did you e-mail us this morning?!?”
That’s kinda how we roll, yo.
This sort of stuff happens often enough that it doesn’t surprise us anymore, but not so often that it doesn’t inspire us.
We continued a delightful conversation with Ramia as she served our dinner, we were all glowing at the serendipity. Our friend and us decided to extend an invite for her to join us after she got off work for more extended hanging out.
As we often do when we meet people living inspiring lives, we left behind one of our ‘when i grow up i wanna be like me‘ stickers.
Back at our RV Park, she joins up with our little gathering later and asks, “Ok, I gotta know… who left the sticker?”
And then shows us this picture on her iPhone:
We had given one of our stickers to the library’s care taker nearly 4 years ago when we visited Slab City. Or perhaps another recipient over the years placed it on this mirror in the library. But wow, what a full circle reflection staring back at us!
Anyone else got chills?
Thank you serendipity… keep reminding us to always expect the unexpected!
No doubt, Ramia was meant to cross our paths.

Serendipity rocks as does this blog. We love moments like those you describe. One of these months I hope our paths cross serendipitously and synchronistically.
Safe travels.

Love this kind of stuff, means the energy is flowing. Happens a lot in the bus…
Oh and we would love a sticker…

Next time our paths cross (and not while at 55mph on a backroad), we shall be delighted the adorn the Magic Bus with stickers!

Loved this post!!! A friend and I have taken several “Mystery” trips where we go to the airport with nothing but our toothbrush and tell the agent to put us on the next flight and not to tell us where we are going! We find out where we are going when we get to the gate. The entire trip is all about having no expectations and how things just fall into place. The number of “serendipity” moments that we have on those trips is AMAZING!!! Truly a lesson on how we should live life!!
Thanks for your posts – always enjoy them!!

Wow – I’d love to read more about your mystery trips! I’ve always wanted to do exactly that, but though I have done plenty of road trips that involved intentionally trying to get lost, I’ve never done it by plane.
How did you manage to avoid paying outrageous amounts for last minute flights?
– Chris

Hi Chris – we have done this 3 times. We have chosen Southwest for their “cheap” flights – our most expensive flight was $400.
These trips are great campfire stories! They have been AMAZING the way things have just fallen into place – truly the universe does provide!!! The people we meet are so kind and helpful – and we always find the most awesome places to stay – the “serendipity” stories just go on and on …

Awesome post….I love when things like this happen. Isn’t that ‘Yacht club’ a hoot? We went there last year while attending the Big Tent Sale.
Love your blog and the sharing of the engine rebuild. Enjoy your stay at McDowell Reg Park. Cave Creek Reg Park is one of our favorites in the Phoenix area. Happy Trails!

The Yacht Club was indeed a hoot! Thanks for the recommendation of Cave Creek, if we’re through the area again we’ll have to check it out. Although, the allure of McDowell may be hard to lure us away. 🙂
