We’ve got a lot of great stuff upcoming, and places where we’re booked to be. And some of them, we’d love to invite you to meet up with us if you’re in the area too!
Here’s some locations on our radar:
Quartzsite, AZ
This is our very first Quartzsite winter – and we’re excited to be checking out all the crazy action here. We actually quietly (well, as quietly as a 2-stroke engine can be) pulled in earlier this week, hoping to get a little downtime after the social awesome we had in Borrego for the past few weeks and get some quality time with dear friends in the area.
It mostly worked, we went a whole 24 hours before being ‘discovered’.
But we’re officially announcing our arrival now.. and here’s where you can catch up with us:
Technomadia Hang Out – Friday, Jan 16 – 1-3pm
We’ll be hanging out at Beer Belly Bar for a couple hours – if you’re in the area and would like to say ‘hi’ – stop on by. Don’t be shy.. we’d love to meet you!
Nothing formal, no big ‘gathering’ or presentation. Just a chance to share a hug and say hi. Feel free to stop by, hang out, grab a beer or whatever. (And no, we won’t be fielding tech questions 😉 ).
Beer Belly Bar (aka ‘Adult Day Care’) is just northeast of the ‘Big Tent’ in the Tyson Wells flea market of Kuehn Rd, kinda on the main corridor. Right behind the home made ice cream shack – which you know I’ll be partaking of! We’ll pick a table and be sitting there waiting to say hi. (Chris will be wearing his signature black leather hat.)
Rubber Tramp Rendezvous Q&A – Saturday, Jan 17 – 1pm
The folks over at CheapRVLiving.com host a meet-up in QZ every year, and they’ve asked us to stop by and host a little informal Q&A. This should be pretty casual and low key – just our style. You’re welcome to stop by, and we’ll probably hang around a little afterwards to mingle.
Click for more information on finding the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous location.
RVillage Meetup – Tues, Jan 20 – 4pm
Curtis, the founder or RVillage.com Curtis (the social network we helped launch in early 2014) is hosting a casual happy hour at the famous Quartzsite Yacht Club (1090 W Main St). This is ironically, the very place we first met Curtis in November 2013, got introduced to his idea for RVillage and agreed to help him launch it.
Click to RSVP on the RVillage Get-Together Page or our Facebook Event (or just stop on by!)
We’ll stick around Quartzsite long enough to attend this, so come on out to meet up, meet Curtis and some other awesome RVillagers!
We’ll be out and about Quartzsite over the next few days dropping by other events we’ve been invited to, and exploring the big show – if you see us in a public location, do say hi. We really do love meeting our readers.
However, we do ask that if you discover our not-so-secret parking location, that you respect our privacy and not just knock on the door (write us instead, we can usually set up a time to be dressed.) We are trying to get some work done, we sleep odd hours, are often in just our robes at home (or dancing naked) and just really need our alone time to re-charge to be able to be out in public. Thank you!
Tucson, AZ – Escapade – March 8-13
Join Us Here for Free!!
Whew.. this is a biggie for us, and we’re a tad nervous about it. We’ll be making our RV rally speaking debut!
We’ve agreed to present three seminars at Escapee’s 55th Annual Escapade this year in Tuscon. We really loved this group when we randomly stopped by their event in Elkhart last year, so we said yes when they asked if we’d be up for attending and being part of this one.
Here’s what and when we’ll be presenting:
- 10am / Wed, March 11 – The High Tech Nomad – Using technology to enable a mobile lifestyle – from gadgets, toys, mobile internet to alternative energy.
- 11:30am / Wed, March 11 – Beyond Work Camping: Income on the Road – Full-timing isn’t just for retirement. Combine career & travel – from self-employment, temporary gigs to working remotely.
- 3pm / Wed, March 11 – Social Media to Enhance a Mobile Lifestyle – Twitter, Facebook, RVillage, Blogging, Instagram, Google+?!? Use social media for community building and professionally.
Escapade still has boondocking space available (no hook-ups left) if you want to sign up for the entire shindig (they’re really fun.. and we say that not being ‘rally people’). They also have day passes available.
But the extra awesome news is.. Escapee’s is making Wednesday their free Community Day – which means anyone can attend Escapade events at no charge! Coincidence that all our events are booked on that very day? Maybe.
So if you’re in the area, we invite you to come join us, attend our sessions (and sessions of other presenters) and check out an Escapade!
There will also be an informal happy hour after our last presentation (around 4:30 or 5:00p) that you’re welcome to join us for too!
Austin, TX – Wireless Generation Premier – April 2
Long long ago, in what seems like a galaxy (or at least a desert) far far away – Christine & Drew Gilbert of AlmostFearless.com came to Burning Man (with their 9 month old son!!) and joined our Camp Nomadia theme camp in 2010. They interviewed us for this new documentary idea of theirs on digital nomads.
Apparently, we made the final cut and will be making our silver screen debut this spring! We’re super thrilled that mobile working on the road RVers will be represented amongst the worldwide digital nomad community – that’s kinda huge. Ok, yeah.. we’re a tad nervous about that too!
We’ll be aiming to make the film premier in Austin, TX in early April. But they are screening all over the nation if you’d like to catch the show. The DVD and digital download will be available for sale soon after the film tour is done, on June 1st.
Whew.. it’s going to be a busy and exposing winter & spring ahead. Which is why you’ll (hopefully not) find us hiding out in remote location from time to time to work up the energy for all this. We never set out to be minor public figures of RVing and digital nomadism – and here we are presenting and being in a movie. How the heck did this happen??
Jil Mohr says
P.S. great news about your film debut….well deserved, I am sure….
Jil Mohr says
Planning on being at the Escapade …..hope we can say hi again…We home base in Benson at the SKP park there…lots of BLM land in the area if you need to hide and recharge…and if you decide to visit Benson …the best restaurant there is Mexican….Mi Casa only opened M-F….

Just heads-up to let you know that the RVillage link is spelled incorrectly.
Wish I could have made it up to the meet up today.
Also, I linked you and your book in my post today. It’s been invaluable, to a non techie like me.
Thanks.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Thanks for the RVillate heads up.. 🙂 And thanks a bunch for the link.
Jodee Gravel says
Visions of you trying to “sneak in” behind the creosote bushes gave me a good chuckle – as if! Your schedule sounds like you’ve spread it out enough to have some recharging in between so you’ll have a great time. That mass of humanity generates energy as well – remember to draw some in rather than getting completely drained 🙂
Cherie Ve Ard says
Hopefully it will be all nice and spread out, and we’ll have plenty of energy to be fully present at each.
Rowanova says
What a great and busy schedule you two have! Best of success with all of these endeavors.
From your small travel trailers, to the repurposed bus, to blogger notoriety, to full-on RV Celebrity status. That’s quite a climb. Back in the world of concrete, asphalt and skyscrapers, you’d be CEOs. 🙂
With attention to the window coverings, have fun! No matter, what kinda fun… 😉
Cherie Ve Ard says
Oh gosh.. now we’re feeling humbled. Don’t think we’re anywhere near ‘full-on’… just two bloggers who wrote some stuff 😀
But more importantly, is the people we get to meet along the way.. it’s been quite a ride!
Mister Ed says
I’m going up on top of my roof what time does the dancing naked start
Oh rats I forgot about the three hour Eastern standard time different it’s going to be dark out
If you go to Tucson there is a western theme park it’s signature is the pinnacle Peak patio restaurant excellent excellent food if you do go stop in to Salvation Army and buy an old tie and where it in there you’ll have some fun. It is totally 100% low casual shorts and flip-flops are okay but to have some fun do wear the tie
Ar Steve is is the one that put us on to these two really good places
Also if you’ve never been to the pima air Museum it is a must see guarantee you won’t be disappointed ,, take the tram ride around the property
And if by chance you do go Mission San Xavier Del Bac Church right in the parking lot you You really Got to try their fry bread
Both places are large RV friendly with lots of room but no overnighting
But once out of town you’re surrounded by BLM land
Enjoy
Also Crazyhorse RV park had the best rate$ It’s at the South eastern end of Tucson
Don’t forget your you’re in citizen auto stages hometown
Cherie Ve Ard says
Hahaha.. ironically, there is some guy sitting on his roof over there. Is that you Mister Ed?? 🙂
We do hope to pop by Citizen Auto Stage, would be super cool to snap a pick of Zephyr at her old home. And maybe see if we can dig up some more dirt on her history 🙂
Thanks for all the recommendations!

It sounds like you guys will be busy having fun and being social. We’re spending the winter in Florida so will miss this year’s Escapade but have a great time.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Enjoy your winter in Florida… great place to keep warm!
John & BJ says
I’d love to cross paths with you but I’m spending the weekend on the river so I won’t get to Q until Monday for some solar testing.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Who knows what next week holds for us.. we may very well still be bouncing around. We’ll see how long we hold out on the social energy. Such a great opportunity to cross paths!
Sherry in MT says
Wowsa! Have fun, dance naked and share the love! You guys have a great time and don’t work too hard. Can’t wait to hear how everything goes!
Cherie Ve Ard says
It’s definitely a unique experience out here… fun to see, for sure! *dance naked* Hooray!
Karen says
Rock stars, I tell ya, freakin’ rock stars! LOL! Well, at least you know where you can always quietly rendezvous when you’re ‘up nort’. 😉
Enjoy your time out west! 🙂
Cherie Ve Ard says
We love having quiet little retreats… yours is tops on our list 🙂
Marshall says
I’ll be at the screening in Austin. See y’all there!
Cherie Ve Ard says
Awesome.. we look forward to meeting you finally!
Gaelyn says
Congrats in order. You are really making things happen. I’m glad to see representation for the nomadic RVer, especially from you (slightly) younger folks. If only there’d been internet when I started out 40 years ago. I sure hope you can fit some down time in between somewhere. May cross trails in Q, where I pull in Sat.
Cherie Ve Ard says
Did you ever encounter Steve Roberts (the ‘original’ technomad)? He started full timing on a bicycle in the early 80s.. complete with internet on board. He’s been a huge inspiration to our own journey. Easily accessible internet certainly does make connecting with each other a breeze!
Thanks for blazing such a fantastic trail for the rest of us.
Paul Davis says
Calling The Behemoth a bicycle is a bit like calling your bus a van 🙂 I met Steve in the early 90’s when he was already on the 2nd generation “bike”, and he talked about his “chordal typing” technology which allowed him to type while riding (the bikes are recumbents and his hands are down on the outside of the bottom of his thighs). Quite a guy.
Chris Dunphy says
Steve’s Behemoth is to bicycles what the Space Shuttle is to the Wright Flyer. An amazing guy, and a pioneer for all of us. Meeting and befriending him in 1993 (I think) was a great moment, and when I first hit the road one of my first stops was his lab.

Paul Davis says
The only thing I didn’t like about Behemoth was that it was inherently slow because it was just so incredibly heavy I think I recall Steve saying he averaged only about 5mph on it when there were any hills. God knows how much lighter it could be today. I met him when he came to give a talk at UWashington Computer Science on “mobile computing” (I worked there back then) … wow, hasn’t that field changed 🙂
My brother took a year or so to travel and work by bike, tarp and solar powered computing and his rig probably weighed less than half what Behemoth did. I wonder if Steve has a current version of the Behemoth vision, and what it weighs and how fast it can move. Improvements in solar technology might even make a little assistive motor possible, perhaps. “Your batteries are fully charged, sir, would you like me to help you with this hill?”
Chris Dunphy says
It is so amusing that you met Steve when he was giving a talk at the University of Washington.
I first met him when I arranged for him to come be a speaker to the Computer Science department at Washington University (St. Louis) as part of the ACM speaker series.
The BEHEMOTH is now in the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley, and Steve has spent the past decades playing with boats instead of bikes. You can catch up on his projects at http://www.microship.com and http://www.nomadness.com.

we won’t get to the Q till Sunday so maybe we will finally meet up at the RVillage meetup if Curtis has one… otherwise enjoy the Q and hopefully you can get some work done in all the frenzy…
Cherie Ve Ard says
Hopefully RVillage will schedule something while we’re still around.. would be great to cross paths!
Cyndi says
Yikes! My head would be exploding just thinking about all that activity!
Wish I was there to join in at least some of it!
Cherie Ve Ard says
Thankfully, it’s spaced out over a few months… plenty of time to breath in-between. 🙂
Lynda.. stillhowlyntravels says
Wow, that’s quite an itinerary but well-deserved fame. Hope you enjoy a little alone time!
Cherie Ve Ard says
Thanks… I am sure there are some amazing discoveries ahead of us!
