One of my favorite places to be in the springtime is the hill country of Texas. Thanks to the efforts of Lady Bird Johnson, wildflowers paint the roadsides. First starting with the Texas state flower, the bluebonnet.
Also known as the Lupinus texensis or Texas lupine, the flower is generally a deep and vibrant indigo blue indicative of the state itself. Similar varieties are found in other places, and I was pleases as punch to have my first glance this season at a bloom near Tucson earlier in the month.
Blooms on different years vary depending on climate – and this spring, we hit the jackpot for wildflowers. With lots of rain this winter, they’re springing up right before our eyes.
As the season progresses, other wildflowers and colors will start interspersing themselves, creating a magical colorful landscape.
I’m just simply addicted to taking photos of bluebonnets. Call it my Texas upbringing, I suppose.
I’ve been sharing some snapshots on Instagram this past week, and thought I’d share a few here as well.

We’re overall having a great time in Austin and keeping super busy. The film premier last week was fabulous, we’re enjoying time with family in the area, eating way too much yummy food and some friends have joined us at McKinney Falls State Park.
We’re also putting together details on our summer plans, which we’re super excited about.. we’ll reveal them soon.
We’ll update more fully in a bit once we have some open time. But for now, we hope you’ve enjoyed a little taste of the hill country landscapes we’ve been treated with.

I loved this until you mentioned the rattlesnakes…. here in PA you can sit in a field of flowers all day long and the scariest thing you will meet is a mouse or a groundhog or a rabbit. As much as I would love a warmer locale… between the alligators and the snakes, I am starting to wonder …. sigh :(((

Awesomely beautiful photos. I immediately recognized that your blue bonnets are lupines. They are commonly found in the Cascade mountains while hiking, and they never disappoint.
I hope you get the opportunity to see more of the wildflowers in the area. Enjoy!

Nice photos! We are slowly making our a way across Texas, and the flowers have been amazing. Not sure if we’re going to make Austin this year as our whims are pushing us to the coast.

You are probably pretty safe taking those bluebonnet pics with all those bluebonnets there to attack any nearby rattlesnakes!
