We had no idea what we wanted to see or do while we were in Maine, but we did know we wanted to see our friends Betsy and Nancy of RV-A-GoGo.
During the winters, these two camp host in the panhandle of Florida. And for the past few summers, they’ve done the same in Maine.
I honestly hadn’t paid enough attention to exactly WHERE in Maine they were, but I just knew wherever they were – we were going.
As we were getting closer, I touched based and thus is how we ended up in Trenton, ME. Right across the way from Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain.
This post covers August 29-31.
Narrows Too RV Resort
The park that Betsy is camphosting at is Narrows Too RV Resort (our review), part of the Encore System.
We’re not huge fans of typical commercial RV Parks, and not generally the Encore system. What these parks usually have going for them is location, but they’re just not our style.
Betsy made a reservation for us, but said availability was wide open. At the starting list price for a spot of $60/night (waterfront way over $100/night), we only committed for three nights in the ‘cheap seats’.
Just enough time to catch up with friends and perhaps see the area.
We already had reservations within the national park for Labor Day weekend in the new campground over on Schoodic Peninsula – so we would be getting more concentrated exploring time soon enough.
We made the quick journey over from China, and pulled in to an excited Betsy awaiting us.
She loaded us up in a golf cart and took us for a spin around the park, with a list in hand of what was available for our nights – noting she could get us into any of them at our rate.
She pointed out a couple sites off on their own, that would have done just fine.
And then she rounds the corner to the waterfront sites, which are mostly tightly packed. Most of currently open ones aren’t available for our entire stay… until she comes across site 100. Which was.
Chris went gah-gah. It’s on the end with a panoramic view of Cadillac Mountain and surroundings. He asked if we can pull head in, and Betsy says ‘SURE!’.
We didn’t need to look at any other sites. This was ours.
We pulled in forward and then enjoyed an incredible sunset to welcome us.
The site offered just enough privacy that we could leave the windows open overnight – and we awoke to an amazing sunrise out our windows.
Simply, blissful.
Crazy how we had low expectations for the park, but ended up with one of our most scenic stays.
Time with Friends
Like us, Nancy and Betsy are working gals. This year, Betsy is working in the campground office, but Nancy sought out a position with a local catering company.
She’s a trained and accomplished chef, and seems to be loving exploring her culinary arts more this season.
So when Nancy invited us over for dinner, we enthusiastically said ‘what time?’ and ‘can we bring the wine?’.
She served us an amazing meal of grilled shrimp and chicken, kale Ceasar salad, gazpacho made from their garden and fixings. And of course we got caught up on the couple years since we last saw each other.
Over dinner, they invited us out for a day of touring Acadia National Park with them as our guides. Sounded perfect to us to be able to benefit from their ‘local’ knowledge of the highlights to hit.
We loaded up their pup Spirit, and took off for the day for a car tour. One of the unique features of Acadia National Park is it’s totally pet friendly, unlike so many other national parks where pets aren’t allowed out on the trails.
We ended up with lunch along the waterfront, touring Bass Harbor Light Station and driving to the top of Cadillac Mountain. We got back just in time for sunset at our place.
Overall, a perfect day and a way too short overview of the area.
And of course, not nearly enough time with these wonderful and warm folks. We interviewed Nancy & Betsy in our Rambling Series if you’d like to get to know them too.
We truly are blessed with all the amazing people we’ve gotten to meet in our travels.
What’s Up Next?
I’m going to attempt to catch the travelogue up a bit closer to ‘real’ time – so please do excuse the relative deluge of posts coming this week.
Our next post will overview time spent out at the amazing Schoodic Peninsula at the brand new Schoodic Woods Campground.
Blasts from the Past
I’ll also include some links to past ‘topical’ posts so those desiring more than just the travelogues this week can get their fix too.
Today, I share:
Finding a work/life balance is difficult for many. Toss in a full time traveling lifestyle – and you have some new challenges to navigate. This post goes over some of our hard earned lessons over the years. We still struggle with this.
Tips for Balancing Work and a RV Traveling Lifestyle
One of the more frequent questions we’ve seen asked in RVing groups and forums is ‘how much should I budget for full time RVing?’. It’s one of those ‘it depends’ answers based on your own personal budget, lifestyle choices and preferences. Over the years we’ve kept a log of our monthly travel related costs, and have shared them publicly. This post goes over a lot of information on considerations for setting your own budget, and includes a lengthy in-depth video too.
What Does it Cost to Full Time RV?

I had a feeling you folks would not care much for New England… ; ) Glad you like it! Looking forward to being there myself next summer after major renovations are done!

It’s definitely exceeded our expectations. We’re looking forward to our general wrap up of the northeast and slapping our past selve’s hands for ever avoiding this area of the country.

It was lovely indeed. The park would have been right fine by us to catch up with friends, but the site we ended up with made it extra awesome!
