On Monday evening at sunset, aboard our new vessel Y-Not, we made our relationship partnership legal to the state of Florida.
It was a small intimate zany marriage license signing event (some might call it a ‘wedding’) with just our parents and a local notary. My father, who passed four years ago today, I know was smiling down from heaven to join us.
We literally tied a bowline knot around our waists using our new rope skills. Up until 2 hours before the event, we had no clue what we’d wear (long time readers will recognize the choice of our iconic purple shirts we wore on our first date), say or even if we’d have flowers.
Kiki was of course the flower-cat.
In reality, it doesn’t change much about our relationship except legally protect each other better going forward and qualifying us for reduced insurance rates. Benefits we would not have taken advantage of before same-gender marriage was legalized.
Chris and I actually had our own private commitment ceremony nearly 10-years ago, already had legal documents to protect each other with medical advanced directives, wills and powers of attorney. We’ve worn rings forged with the ashes of our original vows for many years.
We own a business together, were beneficiaries for each other on everything, have purchased three (mobile) homes and several vehicles together… and of course there’s Kiki who owns us both.
We were already pretty darn legally tied together anyway, with full intentions of life partnership.
There will be no name changes, we will not refer to each other husband & wife and we don’t identify as ‘Mr and Mrs’ (we prefer the term partnership.)
So there you go.. we Tied the Y-Not.
While we didn’t intend it to be a big deal, it was a very touching milestone in our relationship – and we’re honored to be able to share the excitement with you.

Just wanted you to know that I changed my Verizon data plan to the new “unlimited” plan, with great trepidation. I was very worried about running out of high-speed 4G LTE data, even with two jetpacks. So, I was constantly checking and counting the gigs because I teach online and have a class event coming up that requires speed and bandwidth. After 10 gigs, I discovered that if you are out in the boondocks or places where traffic is low, they will NOT throttle you back to 3G. That is wonderful, as like nearly all full-time Rvers, I am almost never in places with a lot of people. So, right now I am at 14 gigs and still getting the old 4G LTE speed! Saved almost $80 per month with the new plan.

Careful, they are still rolling out the 10GB high speed mobile hotspot cap on Jetpacks and smartphones. Just because you’re not seeing it now, doesn’t mean you won’t. It’s not based on tower traffic.

Cherie and Chris, Congratulations not just for your marriage but also for your new yacht! It’s been a while since I last read your blog and was happy to see that you both are sailors yet still keeping the rig for winter time, cool! May the winds be fair and the waters calm. Happy Yachting.
