In 2008 we had an idea: A Burning Man theme camp for nomads… a camp that would take the Welcome Home!’ greeting to a new level. A neighborhood of folks who would attend Burning Man as part of their normal traveling lifestyle, and not as a break from fixed life in one location.
Camp Nomadia was born! The vision was to camp and interact with other cool nomadic spirits, share stories, resources, share our passion for our chosen lifestyles, inspire, learn and make connections for future rendezvouses.
Update: Camp Nomadia is no more. We’ve personally not been to Burning Man since 2011, and the core of the camp that carried it on has moved on to other things.
We did however bring some core elements of Camp Nomadia when we paved the way for Xscapers – a club within a club of the Escapees RV Club for the ‘working aged’ RVer. If you’re looking for a Nomadia-like experience off the playa, check out their amazing Convergences and the Annual Bash. It’s like a roaming Camp Nomadia – something that was always our dream!
Interested in Camp Nomadia? Here’s the scoop…
The intentions behind Camp Nomadia are:
Community through radical self-reliance. As many nomads travel with their home set-up and are used to being self-sufficient, Camp Nomadia itself does not have any infrastructure — no showers, no kitchen, no central trash, no water, etc. We nomads generally don’t have the resources to store and transport enough for an entire camp. We believe that community can be built without relaying on each other for our basic responsibilities on the playa. We sometimes crowdsource a central shade structure by linking whatever individuals have together.
No camp fees. With no infrastructure to support, we have no camp fees.
Interactivity. We want to create a space where nomads can share their passions with each other and the playa. Perhaps we’ll host a couple workshops and nomadic happy hours. Bring your ideas, and let’s create this together!
Simplicity & Drama-free. By bringing together folks who are self-reliant year round, we intend to work together to create our home on the playa by minimizing the infrastructure and pre-planning.
We welcome current nomads, future nomads, former nomads, wanna be nomads, part time nomads, domestic nomads, international nomads, technomads, digital nomads, lowtechnomads, photonomads, RVing nomads, hitchhiking nomads, land nomads, bicycling nomads, running nomads, walking nomads, amtrekkers, backpackers, flashpackers, vagabonds, NuRVers, water nomads, folks who want to host nomads or folks who just want to be around nomads (yes, bring your non-nomadic friends too!). Burning Man veterans and virgins alike!

Hey Camp Nomadia, We’re looking to become burn newbies in 2020. My girl and I are looking for a camp to join and guide us thru what we know will be a great experience. We want to bring our 5th wheel and looking for advice and a home on the playa. I hope you’ll consider us as we move it forward. Thanks, Clifford

Have a great burn… Camp Nomadia hasn’t been around since 2011.

I have an acquaintance named Drew who is a part of your camp. He drives Mercedes RV. I have stored his motorcycle for the past two years while he was enjoying your company on the Playa. My g/f and I are looking for a cool laid back group to camp with for our virgin Burning Man experience. Would we be welcome?
Cherie Ve Ard says
Anyone who feels called to the camp is welcome.

I just stumbled upon your exceptional website. While the two of you clearly exist on a far higher circle of the web cloud, you posssess the ability to explain complex issues to the connectively-challenged such as myself. Your explanation of the 3G/4G world was enlightening. I regret not coming to your light until after I purchased a Samsung modem. . .
It’s sad that you and many other long time members of the Burning Man community will not have an opportunity to contribute this year. Perhaps you and your fellow nomadic geeks might consider the Fourth of JuPlaya as an alternative this year. I suspect a significant number of frustrated Burners will be getting their Playa fix at FOJP in 2012 .
My wife and I recently moved to Fernley/Wadsworth but we will be at our Miami Beach condo for several weeks. I you get a chance, please touch base with me. I’d love to chat with you.

We did FOJP back in 2007, and it was a blast. Who knows what this year will hold for us.
